Buzzient is a small and growing startup in Boston’s Innovation District. Developers work on the entire stack from database to user interface so don’t be shy. We work with massive data sets, NLP algorithms, server deployment, automation, system admin tools, API interaction, testing tools and web scraping among other areas. At Buzzient, you will know each member of the team from intern to CEO. The org chart doesn’t go up 7 levels.

Our Platform and Process

Our server-side code is written in Python, while our client-side code is a combination of HTML, CSS, and Javascript.  Our code is WSGI-compliant, and makes use of the Werkzeug framework.  Our servers as well as development machines run Linux, most dev is done running Fedora. We use jQuery as our Javascript library of choice. Our DB is MySQL and we use Redis to speed things up a bit. Selenium and Buildbot are used as part of our testing framework. We use Github for version control and task management. We built our own VPN box using open source software. We don’t outsource any of our sentiment algorithms and social media harvesting (unlike the competition.) We automated our deployment infrastructure to Amazon EC2 but we are looking to add other providers into the mix. We once fired up 1000 Buzzient instances just to see how it would feel. We are looking for developers who are passionate about their trade and care about how they architect their software. We are particularly interested in strong Python developers and DevOps folks.

Python Developers

Responsibilities You Will Have and Skills We Will Want

• Enhancements and contributions to our software, our documentation, our testing and our lunch conversation
• Improvements to Back end automation and server deployment
• Python development experience
• Linux and LAMP development experience a must
• Some JavaScript development as well
• Git version control
• Familiarity working with Open Source packages/API’s
• Experience with Natural language processing, Sentiment analysis or text mining
• Experience with Highly Scalable Applications with large amounts of data a plus

User Interface 

Responsibilities You Will Have and Skills We Will Want

• jQuery UI/UX enhancements to our web-based software
• HTML5 conversion of some of our older elements
• Graphic and visual element design
• External, customer and partner website enhancements using WordPress and other tools

Required Skills

• User interfaces, HTML5 , CSS, AJAX
• Javascript (jQuery) experience needed
• Experience or interest in Client-side speed enhancements
• Photoshop, Illustrator or any sort of graphics background
• Past UI/UX/Design Portfolio of some sort to look through
• For internships the minimum commitment required is 18 hours/week
